How Are Savings Calculated in Gofer?
Your savings are based on even-sized comparisons, but store totals may reflect different-sized packages (because we show you the best price per unit, not necessarily the same package size). That’s why the difference between two store Totals won’t always equal your calculated savings. This is why we created Compared Total; it adjusts the weight or volume to the same amount so that we are comparing the same/similar products by the exact same weight or volume.

When setting up Gofer, you’ll be asked to choose your Compare store, the store you typically shop. This is the store we use to calculate your savings. If your preferred store isn’t listed, choose one with similar pricing (for example, choose Metro if you usually shop at Sobeys). You can update this selection anytime in your settings. 

How We Calculate Savings:

We compare prices using a standard unit size (i.e. per 100g or per 100ml) to make it fair. For example:

  • Store A: Hamburger is $1.25 per 100g, and the package is 2kg
  • Store B (main store): Hamburger is $1.75 per 100g, and the package is 1kg

We adjust the weight of the product being compared to the weight of the best price product: In the case below Store A is the best price so we adjust Store B product weight to match. This makes the comparison equal.

  • Store B: $1.75 × 20 = $35.00
  • Store A: $1.25 × 20 = $25.00
  • Savings = $10.00

This same method is used for volume-based products.

If the product sizes are already the same, we simply subtract the higher price from the lower one.

Branded vs. Generic Products:

  • If you search for a specific branded item (e.g., Gay Lea Salted Butter, 1lb), we try to compare only that exact brand and size.
  • If you search for a general item (e.g., salted butter

Missing Matches:

If Gofer’s AI can’t confidently find a match at your compare store (for example, for a specialty or store-brand product like President’s Choice), that item will be excluded from your savings calculation. If a product savings also seems unreasonable, we remove it from your savings calculation. This helps keep savings estimates accurate.

Does Gofer allow you to price match?

Yes, Gofer does allow you to price match by using the  ❤️ feature.  When in the flyer section of the app tap on a flyer item you wish to price match and then tap on the heart. Your price match items are saved and can be retrieved by tapping on the heart in the top right corner while in the flyer section.  Use this feature to show cashiers the item(s) as proof of a competitor’s price.

What is a Gofer run?
A Gofer run happens after you enter your grocery items into the gofer run list.  Items can be imported from existing lists, recipes, hard copy lists (take a photo), copy and paste or just by entering it manually. Gofer then searches all the stores within your selected radius (e.g., 5 km from your postal code) in real time, comparing each item, including flyer sales. 

Gofer analyzes all the items based on $/100g or $/100ml to determine the best prices. Then, based on the number of stores you wish to visit for this list, Gofer tells you what products to buy at which stores, normally saving you approximately 10–25% on groceries.

Can I create and reuse shopping lists?

Absolutely! With Gofer, you can create custom grocery lists and name them anything you like from your weekly staples to special occasions like a birthday party or Super Bowl Sunday. You can reuse your lists anytime, add or remove items whenever you need, and keep everything organized. Plus, Gofer keeps a handy master list of everything you’ve shopped for, so adding your go-to items is quick and easy. Once your list is ready, just send it to Gofer to instantly see where you’ll save the most.

How do I do a quick search?

To perform a quick search, tap the search icon and enter the product name. The more descriptive you are, the more refined your results will be (e.g., “cheddar cheese” vs. “Black Diamond medium cheddar cheese”). 

Note: The more refined the search, the fewer options you’ll have, which may slightly reduce your savings. 

You can also perform a quick search by tapping the find icon and then the camera. Take a picture of the item and use it to search.

How do the combinations of stores work?

Gofer uses an algorithm to determine the lowest-cost combination of products and stores to minimize your overall shopping expenses. Doing this manually could take hours (or even days), but Gofer does it instantly! 

How does the pricing work?

Gofer’s smart AI scans grocery store shelves and deals in real time, bringing you the latest prices for items on your list. No more guessing or store-hopping, just instant access to the best deals so you can shop smarter and save more! 

Does Gofer include weekly grocery flyers?
Yes! Gofer includes weekly grocery flyers from participating stores, allowing you to view current promotions and discounts. Preview flyers also become available one day before the sale begins.

Flyer information is also factored into each Gofer run.

Does Gofer work in other cities?
Yes! Gofer works in English across Canada. Simply update the desired location by inputting a new postal code and radius within the app, and Gofer will show you the best deals available in that area.
How long does a Gofer run take?
Gofer works fast, but the exact time varies depending on your list size and the number of stores analyzed. The AI takes a few moments to scan shelves, compare deals, and ensure you’re getting the most accurate, up-to-date prices.
You can be notified but tapping ok on the “notify me” screen after sending a grocery run to gofer. You can move on to other tasks and gofer will notify you when it is finished searching.
What if I want to change a product or did not get the correct product?
If you want to change a product in the Gofer results screen (e.g., selecting a different brand), just tap the swap icons and choose a new product from the stores already selected for you to shop at or pick all stores if you are willing to go to another store. When you tap all stores that is the list of items our AI has found for that particular search terminology.

If you get a product you did not expect, you can edit your search terminology and rerun it. To do this tap on the pencil beside the search terminology for that product. Once you make a change to the search terminology the box of that terminology will change to orange. When you have made all the changes you want to your list tap on the refresh icon at the top right.

Can I remove stores I don’t want to shop at?
Absolutely! Gofer lets you customize your shopping experience by excluding stores you’d rather skip. Simply adjust your filter after you have made a gofer run in the app and deselect the stores you don’t want included. When you filter out a store you will get a pop-up window asking if you wish to make this permanent. If you say yes, every run after you make this change will exclude the selected stores. To undo this simply go back into the filter and turn back on the excluded stores.
Can I add more items after a Gofer run is complete?
Absolutely! You can add additional items to your shopping list anytime. Use the back button on the top left to go back to the list part of a gofer run. Make changes and then re-run it.
Can I see the total basket cost difference between visiting 1, 2, or 3 stores?
Yes! Gofer calculates your total basket price based on the number of stores you shop at.

Want to maximize savings with a multi-store trip or keep it simple with just one stop? Gofer provides the breakdown so you can choose the best strategy for your budget and time!

Scroll from one to six stores to see your savings. If your list is small, you may only get two or three stores in the results because we only show the maximum stores that will give you the best savings, i.e. list of three items will max out at three stores or two or one depending on the savings.

Note: Prices are calculated based on $/100g or $/100ml, so sometimes prices may appear higher because you’re getting more quantity (e.g., 2 lbs of chicken vs. 1 lb).

Is there a map of grocery store locations?
Yes! Gofer includes a map feature that shows the locations of recommended grocery stores, helping you plan your shopping route efficiently. To access the map, tap your profile at the top left in the app, then tap on postal code. If you do not see the map tap on the search icon.
How do I know what stores Gofer is checking?
After every Gofer run, tap on the details button and it will show you the stores for each combination, i.e. 2 stores, 3 stores. To view the full list of stores anytime, go to your profile, tap on your postal code, then tap on “Change Stores” button to view all stores included in your run.
How can I tell if Gofer is saving me money?
Gofer compares prices across multiple stores and calculates the total cost of your list, highlighting the best shopping combination for maximum savings.

We compare all prices to your compare store (favourite store) so you can see the savings of going to other stores.

How do I know if I’m using the latest version of Gofer?

To ensure you’re using the most up-to-date version of Gofer, check for updates in your device’s app store.

Why aren’t some stores available in Gofer?
Gofer relies on real-time pricing data from grocery stores that provide online product listings or digital pricing feeds. Some stores are not included because they do not publicly share their pricing data in a way that Gofer can access.

We continuously monitor store availability and will update Gofer if new pricing data becomes accessible.

How do I find a certain recipe?
Use the search functionality at the top to search for any recipe you are looking for, i.e. BBQ Ribs
Can I add the ingredients from a recipe to my gofer run?
Yes, tap on the recipe and then tap on “Add ingredients to grocery list” and then deselect the items you already have at home, and when finished tap on done. They are now added to your run.
Can I save a recipe?
Yes, once you tap on a recipe you are given the option to save it to a cookbook. You can have multiple cookbooks, i.e., soups, salads, pasta, etc.
Can I share the list with family members?
Yes, you can create teams, i.e. Smith Family. To do this go to your profile tap on My Teams, then tap on Create Team, give it a name. To join a team, tap on the edit pencil for your team, tap on send friend invite and use code or QR code to connect.
